Jamie "Mr X Stitch" Chalmers picks a selection of posts that have been featured on the Mr X Stitch website in April 2018:
Ansie van der Walt (https://thefabricthread.com/) explores the world of needlecraft in her Textile Encounters column. Her new series of posts features the tribes referenced in the Black Panther movie, starting with the Basotho tribe from the tiny mountainous country of Lesotho in Southern Africa whose Basotho Blankets are a source of warmth and protection as well as a vibrant expression of cultural pride.

Jess "LoadsofOldBobbins" Taylor (http://tidd.ly/915be939) is our Etsy Explorer and her column features some wonderful makers who use needlecraft in interesting ways.
Her most recent example is Lucy Wray, aka Thrift Design (http://tidd.ly/4f075b9d), who uses salvaged and recycled materials to make charming creatures and collages.

For the longest time Kreinik Threads (http://www.kreinik.com/) have been writing a column for the website and in the latest, Dena Lenham explores String Art, which is making a comeback! If you want to see how great this craft form can be, check out the work of Debbie Smyth (https://debbie-smyth.com/) who elevates string art to new levels.

And one from the archives, we had a column called Needle Exchange in which textile artist Penny Nickels (http://donkeywolf.blogspot.co.uk/) would explore the work of artists from the past. Claes Oldenburg was one of the first serious soft sculptors with his oversized versions of everyday items, like light switches and toilets. He would scale them up, make them in different materials and explore the form and our responses to them. All this back in the 1960's and 70's. Needle Exchange remains one of the most interesting columns we've had on the site, so be sure to check out more posts from the archive.
